Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a procedure that refines the top layer of the skin through a method of controlled surgical scraping. This treatment softens the sharp edges of surface irregularities, giving the skin a smother appearance. It is most often used to improve the appearance of facial skin left scarred by accidents or previous surgery, and smooth out fine facial wrinkles around the mouth. The procedure usually lasts for a few minutes to more than an hour at our out-patient clinic, and it can be done in stages depending on the area of concern. The skin will appear quite red and with some swelling which usually subsides after a few days to weeks. The wound heals after two to three weeks. It can be done under local anesthesia or intravenous sedation depending on the extent of the procedure and the comfortableness of the patient and surgeon.
